Proverbs 3:24
“When you lie down, you will not be afraid;
yes you will lie down and your sleep will be sweet.”
You know what it’s like to be startled awake, unsettled by your thoughts, perhaps a nightmare which correlates to the activities in your day. Uncompleted tasks, relationships at odds, frustrations at work, and often times completely random acts of misfortune. These circumstances seep into our minds and meander there in the dark, where we are most vulnerable, brewing inside our brains to formulate a concoction of dissatisfaction, unsettlement, remorse and fear.
But when we guide our steps with discretion and prudently make our decisions throughout the day, when discretion is a natural part of your considerations, you will sleep soundly and peacefully, because they will always direct you down the right path.
You will not be awaken by your guilt. You will not stirr in your sleep because you took a wrong turn and you won’t writhe with insomnia dwelling on your piles of uncompleted work.
Nay, you will rest peacefully. You will not fear your inadequacies, because you are driven by the adequate One who equips you for each day, one at a time. One step at a time. We are reminded in Matthew 6:34 “ Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about it’s own things’ sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”
With this mindset, you will lie down and sleep. No more tossing and turning in torment and turmoil. But it will be sweet. And maybe, just maybe there will be a smile spread across your willing face.
