Proverb 3:17
“Her ways are ways of pleasantness,
And all her paths are peace.”
Her ways are pleasant. I gather, then that she is not curt, rude, begrudging, bitter, angry, mean-spirited or dissatisfied, envious, and weary.
Rather she is content and satisfied, considerate, friendly and likable. People enjoy being around her and “Happy is the man who finds her” (3:13).
A succinct command, is given us in Chapter 4:5 to “get wisdom”! That is we must become someone who is pleasant to be around, because the way of wisdom is pleasantness.
Am I pleasant at work, not just at an interview?
Am I pleasant at home, regardless of when things are going smooth?
Am I pleasant around my friends?
Am I pleasant to strangers and newcomers?
I must be these things, because I am instructed to get wisdom! Make haste, the text suggests.
In addition to her pleasantness, all her paths are peace. She doesn’t live in a house of contention. She doesn’t stir gossip. She doesn’t douse fires with attitude nor does she bite with her words. But she is peaceful and lays a peaceful way in her wake.
Get her! Douse yourself in pleasantness and peace and satisfy our Lady of Honor, this Keeper of Time.
