Proverb 2:8

“guarding the paths of justice
and watching over the way of his saints.”

In the previous verse, we realize that He is a shield to those who alk in integrity. Verse eight, now, gives us an image of how he serves as that shield.

For one, he “guards the paths of justice.” Which means he not only shields us from the onset of our enemy, but he protects the path we tread, disallowing deternets and things that could serve as potential stumbling blocks. More and more, these verses seem to carry the notion that the more you seek a righteous path, the easier it is to stay on it.

In addition to his guarding our path, he watches over the way of his saints. This image goes one stop further, suggesting that he scouts out the path before us; not only guarding what goes in and out, but goes ahead to make sure we won’t run into trouble. He knows every step we take and He does everything in His power to keep us on the straight and narrow.
