Proverb 2:5

“then you will understand the fear of the Lord
and find the knowledge of God”

thenin this passage is preceded by three “ifs”….

  • “if you recieve my words and treasure up my commandments”
  • “if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding”
  • “if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasure”

Ah! Then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.

It’s funny because we humans want a fast track to all the answers. We want to merely utter a prayer and shake a white-knuckled fist at God when it goes “unanswered”.

I find myself in one such quandry as I mull over this passage. In a lot of ways, this isn’t what I want to be reading today, particularly as the decisions I have to make are both time sensetive and life-changing.

I want God to shout down from the heavens, with calrity and brevity, answers to every quesiton that floats in the sea of uncertainty. Also known as: the state of my mind today.

But we know that confusion isn’t from God. So how then, do we avoid it? How do we come to understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God?

We receive his words and treasure his commands.
We call out for insight and raise our voices for understanding.
We seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasure.

You know what? It requires a bit of work on our end. And thus, requires some of our most valuable time.

But the reward is astounding, as we will be equipped to move through this life with confidence as we fear God, base sound decisions on His knowledge, and claim peace that passes all understanding; walking in certainty and clarity of mind.
