Proverb 3:8

“It will be heath to your flesh
And strength to your bones.”

Diabetes, cancer, Arthritis, our world is ailed with physical calamities We are lost, confused and misdirected and our bodies suffer.

None of us are going to escape death. There is and always will be a natural decline in the proficiency of our working bodies.

But when we fear God, we are more apt to consider his warnings and heed his instruction. So when he says “don’t be slothful”, we make it a priority to work and keep our bodies active.

What results? Energy.  And if we don’t? We are lethargic and depressed. Bent more toward the couch than the treadmill and our body suffers.

To reference the prior verse, we are better off when we acknowledge God in all of our ways.

The more we try, the more we succeed. That is no coincidence. It’s the way He designed this crazy beautiful life. When we fear him, there is tremendous obligation. It’s not a snap of the fingers and everything turns out the way you wanted. We see that when we pray. We don’t get our answers because we pray. We get intimacy with Him when we do.

And when we draw ourselves close to Him, we will hear Him calling to us, asking us to do things. Being a follower of Christ requires action. And the more you act, the more your flesh and bones will thank you. Our bodies thrive on action. Sure your bones may ache in the moment, but later you’ll hear your body cry out for more.

To do today: do something active. But more importantly, make a conscious effort to fear the Lord and depart from evil. And when you do, take note of the strength and health you feel pulsing through your flesh and bones as they cry out in gratitude for the nourishment. Without activity, they are like parched dry land waiting, anticipating showers to water their dehydrated soils.
