Proverb 3:4
“And so find favor and high esteem
In the sight of man.”
Do you want to please God? Follow this simple instruction: Let not mercy and truth forsake you (3:3).
You will be regarded in high esteem as you daily bind them around your neck and write them on the tablet of your heart.
What does it mean to find favor and high esteem?
Favor: an attitude of approval or liking (New Oxford English Dictionary)
Isn’t that the one thing humanity is set out to find, favor? We seek it in all the wrong places, are wounded when we don’t receive it and carry loads of baggage when it goes missing from our lives.
The reason it’s missing is because we fail to do our part to obtain it. We first, must follow the guidelines for receiving it here.
Then, and only then, will we find favor and high esteem, or be respected by God.
And others.
As if finding favor with the creator himself isn’t enough, he throws this beautiful gift of community in the mix. Because He so desperately loves us.
That’s enough to make me want to love him in return. How? By showing Him, with a commitment to obey and let not mercy and truth forsake me.
