Proverb 3:33

“The curse of the Lord is on the house of the wicked,
But He blesses the home of the just.”

We see, capsulated here in one verse, the juxtaposition of Gods mercy and judgements. They are laid out clearly and precisely so that there is no excuse and there shall be no surprises.

The wicked are cursed. It sounds harsh, judgmental, unfair, even. But our finite ability to contemplate falls short of actually comprehending sinfulness and righteousness. They are not merely “good” and “bad” decisions with consequences.

Our sins turn the face of of God from us. Our righteousness is achieved only through him and when we accept this Truth, our breached relationship with him is restored.

And so, the just are blessed. This is no green light to place judgement on fellow man, but to act rightly and justly toward them. For judgement belongs only to God. The structure and format of the verse again, suggests a contrast between the two adjectives: wicked and just.

When to be “wicked” is to be morally wrong, “just” is to be morally right. One is cursed, the other is blessed. The only thing, or I should say person, that separates any of us from the curse is Jesus Christ who removes wickedness and transforms our hearts to desire what is just.
