Proverb 3:32
“For the perverse person is an abomination to the Lord,
But His secret counsel is with the upright.”
The Lord detests perversity. Not in the sense that we understand and commonly use the word–though sexual perversion is an abomination to Him. But “perversity” is much broader than sexual deviation.
Any time we show “deliberate and obstinate desire to behave in a way that is unreasonable or unacceptable, often in spite of the consequences”, [New Oxford American Dictionary definition] we are in sin. And sin is an abomination. It causes our Lord disgust and hatred.
“But” (indicating some sort of contrasting idea to that of a perverse person) His secret counsel is with the upright. What is His secret counsel?
“Secret’ in the Hebrew definition is company of persons (in close deliberation); intimacy, consultation, a secret:–assembly, counsel, inward, secret.
But we imparts a secret and hidden wisdom of God which God decreed before the ages for our glory!” (1 Corinthians 2:7)
I couldn’t find the Hebrew definition for counsel, but the New Oxford definition lends a little more understanding: “advice, especially that given formally.”
In short, He is in close, intimate assembly with the upright—those who are willing to take formal advice”
