Proverb 3:22
“So they will be life to your soul
And grace to your neck.”
Without wisdom and discretion, your soul cannot live. They are life-sustaining and life-giving. Keep them!
They will be grace to your neck the day you “finish the race and complete the task which the Lord Jesus has given” you (Acts 20:24). They will be your reward to adorn your neck when you’ve completed the Lord’s will and call on your life.
“She,” Lady Wisdom, is waiting to “place on your head an ornament of grace”, a victor’s reward (Proverb 4:9) like an Olympian who has trained rigorously for his moment of achievement. Grace and life are your rewards after the long, vigorous training we assume in this world and the race that we run therein, in pursuit of wisdom and discretion. Don’t stop! Keep running! Though sweat drips from the sides of your cheeks, your mouth is dry, air is restricted as it flows sporadically to your lungs and you feel like you may throw up. Don’t stop! There is a garland ready to adorn your neck as your race is pronounced finished and grace and new life sweep over your wearied soul. Keep running your race!
