That is why the persistent urgencies to get wisdom and keep understanding.
If we don’t proactively work to keep our sights on them, they will be lost. The scripture is suggesting that you won’t gain them by happenstance, but they must be worked at, aspired for, attained. Practiced and rehearsed.
It’s something by which we set our sights on. As though fixed on the finish line at the end of a race. Like a good coach, the Father gently lays one hand on the shoulder of the reader, his child, and with the other hand points in the direction the son must run. He utters encouraging advice with this solitary directive: ‘my son, let them not depart from your eyes’ and spurs him on with one simple, yet profound command to keep his eyes fixed. Don’t worry about the runner to your left or your right, but keep your sights on the end of the race, and run.
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great coud of whitnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out before us” (Hebrews12:1)
Keep them. As in, don’t throw it out with last season’s trends. These jewels are in high demand. They are timeless. And they never go out of stye. They are pieces you will regret parting with. So keep them. Remember my command lest you grow weary and tired or heaven forbid, bored. Keep them. Keep them!
