Proverb 2:2
“making your ear attentive to wisdom
and inclining your heart to understanding;
When someone has my attention, I lend my ear to them. I give them eye contact. I don’t just hear them but I’m listening to them. I digest their words. I can have the TV on in the other room and never hear a word of it.
But if I sit down to watch a program, I listen and I can give you a detailed synopsis at the end. But I must be actively engaged.
If my heart is inclined to someone or something, I’m attached, involved and committed. I wonder about them and want to be with them. I gravitate toward them. There’s something of a magnetic pull there.
The same can be said if my heart is inclined to understanding and I have an attentive ear to wisdom.
When she speaks, I hear her. I feel her convictions and I’m coerced to change my behavior to appease her.
If I’m inclined to understanding, I listen for her. Wait to hear her voice and feel the gravitational pull toward a healthy lifestyle full of wise choices.
Today, I choose to tune my ear to her voice; my heart craves fresh understanding.
