Proverb 10:3

“The Lord will not allow the righteous soul to famish
But He casts away the desire of the wicked.”

I think it’s worth pointing out that the hunger Lady Wisdom references here here is soul-deep. It’s not a basic need for flesh and bone to be nourished, or a desire we tease out with our tastebuds in bountiful flavors. It’s the deepest and strongest desires of the inner man—the soul that resides in him—that she is concerned with.

The one who is morally right or justifiable, he will not be famished. In other words, he will be fed steady and constant doses of nourishment for his soul. And he will be satisfied by those meals. Sometimes he may enjoy them more than others, but he is grateful for every last one. He lives and he thrives off of the meals that are prepared and provided.

But the wicked man refuses the meal. He is offered the same nourishment as the righteous man, but he is not satisfied with the provision and he finds fault with the flavor. He will snub the plate and mock the provider. His desire goes unfulfilled, his craving left wanting. This man’s pride will drive him to the point of desperate hunger through his refusal to eat.

The master chef dishes up and serves us plate after plate after plate; morning, noon and night; day after day. He adds pinch of discomfort at times and a tablespoon of more palatable flavors at others. He will throw in circumstantial events here and there to concoct a dish that we may or may not like. But at the end of the day, we are fed.
